Thomas (Tom) Spence (1952-2013) grew up on a sheep station in outback Queensland and moved to Stanthorpe in 2003 from the Blue Mountains.

He won the Dobell Prize for drawing in 1994, the Blake Prize for religious art in 1997 and the JADA award in 2006. He was also an accomplished musician.
His works are held in the New South Wales Art Gallery, the Bathurst Gallery and the World Bank in New York.
