Acquisition - The process where the gallery purchases an artwork.

Australian artist - An artist that has a residential address in Australia.

Artist’s statement - A statement of 50 words or less that forms part of the entry process and consists of an overview of the artist. This will be made public in relevant promotional material if a finalist.

Artwork Statement - A statement of 50 words or less that forms part of the entry process and consists of an overview of the artists’ submitted work. This will be made public in relevant promotional material if a finalist.

Category - The section that best describes the type of artwork entered.

Closing date - The final day entries will be accepted (up until midnight). No entries will be accepted after the closing date.

Collection - Artwork may not be removed from the gallery by the artist during the exhibition period. If a sale is conditional on the purchaser taking the work with them, the director of the gallery may allow release after collaboration with the artist.

Collection of unsold artworks - Collection of unsold artwork either in person or by carrier may be made from 12-18 November 2024. Where an artist has arranged return of artworks via carrier or post, SAGS will follow the artist’s instructions. Artworks need to be collected no later than 18 November 2024 due to lack of storage capacity.

Completed - artworks entered must have been completed after 1 January 2022. Artwork may have been started before this time.

Commission - All artwork entered in the Art Prize must be available for sale. If sold a commission of 33.33% of the artwork sale price is deducted and paid to the gallery. The remainder is paid to the artist.

Curate - To display/hang artwork in the gallery. The curation of the artworks will be at the discretion of the gallery.

Damage - Harm to the artwork. All works are insured during the exhibition whilst in the possession and control of the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery. Insurance in transit is the total responsibility of the artist.

Diptychs - Comes from the Greek meaning two (dip) and fold (tych). This is artwork that is made of two different sections but overall work together to form a sequence or theme. The compilation of these works as a whole must comply with the 4 metre perimeter criteria for 2D artworks.

Entry - Consists of a completed entry form, images of artworks, any relevant documents/statements, and payment.

Entry form - entries are accepted via the online entry form at www.srag.org.au or via post or at the gallery using the print entry form.

Entry fee - An entry fee of $50 applies to each artwork entered. Up to three artworks may be entered on each entry form. The entry fee must accompany the entry form and must be received by the closing date.

Entrant - The artist is considered the entrant.

Exhibition period - Includes the dates the final artworks are on public display at the gallery. The 2024 Art Prize exhibition period is from 7 September - 10 November.

Finalist - Artwork selected from eligible entries to be exhibited in the gallery during the Art Prize exhibition period. These artists are considered finalists. Finalists are selected from images provided with the entry form by the artist.

Freight - The transportation of the artwork to the gallery. Finalists assume responsibility for getting the selected artwork/s to the gallery and must arrange any costs including insurance for transit.

Gallery - The term gallery when used in Art Prize communications is the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.

Images - Images of artwork/s must be included with a completed entry form. Judges will shortlist based on the images. Quality, high resolution images should give a suitable snapshot of the artwork. Poor quality images may deem an entry ineligible. Images can be attached when completing the online entry form or if with a paper entry form must be supplied digitally (on disc or USB). Photographic prints or images in a document cannot be accepted. Images must be in the following format jpg, tif, png.

Judging - Judges are independent to the gallery. The gallery or its staff, committee or volunteers are not involved in the judging process. The judges shortlist based on the images supplied from all eligible artworks entered. Shortlisted artworks are considered finalists and are exhibited at the gallery. Judges select winners from the finalists prior to the exhibition period.

Ineligible - Entries that do not comply with terms and conditions will not be accepted. No entry fee refund is provided where entries do not comply.

Local artist - Resident of the Southern Downs Regional Council shire or Tenterfield Council shire.

Medium - Materials or substance that the artwork is primarily made up of.

Perimeter - Full external boundary line of a 2 dimensional artwork link. A perimeter equals 2 x (H + W). Online perimeter calculator.

Public choice - During the exhibition period visitors may nominate an artwork of their choice. After the exhibition period the artwork with the most nominations will receive the public choice award.

Refund - Money paid back. There are no refunds of any costs to the artists associated with entering. A refund of entry fees does not apply if the entry is ineligible or the artwork does not comply with the terms and conditions. A refund does not apply if an artwork is not selected as a finalist.

Sale price - All artwork entered in the Art Prize must be available for sale. The artist determines the sale price when entering. The sale price is advertised on artworks accepted as finalists and is the retail price or the price paid to buy the artwork.

Social media - Artists may list their own website, Facebook or Instagram page on the entry form. Including them gives the gallery permission to access and share information for promotional activities in relation to the Art Prize.

Winners - Winners are selected by judges from the finalists. The public choice award is announced after the exhibition period.

Youth award - Artists who are 12 - 18 years of age at the time of entry closure are eligible for the youth award. Artists must self-nominate this category on the entry form.
