Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024
Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society Inc. (SAGS) organises the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024. It is open to all artists in Australia. Any artwork medium may be entered except those requiring visual display screens or other powered technologies. We do not have the facilities to exhibit these works.
All artworks must have been completed after 1 January 2022.
The perimeter of a two-dimensional entry (including frame) must not exceed a total of 4 metres. The maximum weight allowed is 15 kg. Diptychs and triptychs must either be entered as a single artwork and comply with these rules, or entered as separate artworks. Artworks on paper or canvas must be sent framed and fitted with D-rings, placed 100 mm from the top of the work, and ready for hanging. Artworks not correctly fitted will not be exhibited. A stretched canvas is considered framed. No refund will be given for entries that are found to be oversized once delivered — it is the artists’ responsibility to ensure their artwork meets entry conditions.
Three-dimensional artwork must not exceed 15 kg. The piece should not exceed 50 cm (.5m) in any dimension or Maximum volume of 125000 cm³ (0.125m³). Volume = L x W x H. maximum volume of 0.125 metres³.
The perimeter of a 2D artwork (including frame) must not exceed 400cm (4 metres).IMAGES: So that your artwork is shown at its best please provide high-quality, high-resolution images, shot in good light, so that the judges can see it properly. If the images are not clear your entry will be rejected. Please supply 2 images for 2D artwork (one full work, one detail) and 3 images for 3D work (from 2 different aspects and one detail). Please upload and label the files with your name and the name of the artwork, e.g. Smith, Chris Landscape Journey. If the file size exceeds 25 MB we reserve the right to reduce the image before it is sent to the judges. We accept files IN THE FOLLOWING FORMATS ONLY: .jpg, .tif, .png.
Entry forms AND entry fees must be received by midnight of 31 May 2024. No late entries will be accepted.
The entry fees are $50 per entry, with a maximum of three entries per person. No refund will be given if the artwork is not selected for exhibition or if the artwork is found to not meet our criteria. The artwork will not be judged if an entry fee has not been received in respect of that work.
Artists who are 12–18 years old as of 31 May 2024 are eligible for the Young Artist Award.
SAGS does not carry out any judging of artworks submitted. This is done by external judges. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. The selection of finalists is based on the images you supply and the selection of winners is done by the judges in person, in the days just before Opening Night.
Artworks selected as finalists will be exhibited in the Gallery. All artwork must be for sale. SAGS will deduct commission at 33.33% from the sale price of sold artworks. SAGS will not share commission with other galleries. Payment will be made to the artists within four weeks after the end of the exhibition when SAGS has received payment for the artwork in question. SAGS reserves the right to curate the exhibition in any way it sees fit, taking into account the moral rights of the artist.
The most outstanding artwork of the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 will receive the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 Award of $16,000. In addition, the Judges will award six category prizes of $4,000 each. The Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024 Award winner will be selected from one of these six category winners, therefore they will be awarded the $16000 prize plus the $4000 category prize.
Other awards are: $2,000 Changeover Team Award; $1,500 Local Artist Award (residing within 100 kilometres of Stanthorpe); $1,500 Young Artist Award; $5,000 Public Choice Award.
With the exception of the Public Choice award, winners will be announced on the Awards Night. The Public Choice will be announced after the exhibition closes.
If on receiving artwork in the Gallery it is found that it does not comply with these rules it will be neither judged nor exhibited.
All artworks must be labelled with artist’s name and title, on the back if 2D, or on the underside if 3D.
Artists selected as finalists will allow images of their artworks to be reproduced for non-commercial purposes, on a non-exclusive basis, by print and digital media in the advertising and promotion of the Stanthorpe Art Prize, the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery, and the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection. This will remain in place for five years from 31 May 2024. The Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery will treat the work with integrity and no changes or alterations to the artwork will be done. We respect the copyright of the artist and all moral rights will be asserted. Artists who provide their website, Facebook and/or Instagram details agree that these may be used in promoting and marketing the Stanthorpe Art Prize 2024.
All works are insured by the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery whilst in the possession and control of SAGS.
The artist is responsible for paying all freight and insurance costs during the transit of their artworks to and from the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
Collection of artworks: Exhibits may not be removed until after the exhibition closes on 10 November 2024. If a sale is conditional on the purchaser taking the artwork with them, this clause may be relaxed at the discretion of SAGS. Collection of unsold artwork either in person or by carrier may be made from Tuesday 12 November 2024 to Monday 18 November 2024, between 9 am and 5 pm. Where an artist has arranged return of artworks via carrier or post, SAGS will follow the artist’s instructions. Artworks need to be collected no later than 1 December 2024 due to lack of storage capacity.
Acquisitions will be at the discretion of the SAGS Management Committee and the Gallery Director in line with the Acquisition Policy of SAGS Inc. Any acquired artwork becomes part of the Southern Downs Regional Council Art Collection and payment to the artist will be the nominated selling price minus the gallery’s commission.
Works produced using Artificial Intelligence will not be accepted.
Indigenous Cultural Intellectual Property (ICIP) - if any artwork incorporates ICIP we strive to take this into account and respect and accommodate any terms of the ICIP, particularly in reference to exhibiting and promoting.
