#271 Self reconciliation – the goldfields | Avi Amesbury

$520.00

Porcelain, black slip, gold and silver lustre

Height: 5cm. Width: 6.5cm. Depth: 6.5cm.

A series of small bowls, with gold lustre rims, speaks about the wealth of the goldfields and the obsession of filling our own bowls.

Growing up on the edge of the desert in Western Australia developed into a love of nature, and over the years connection to 'place' has driven my artistic practice. During this time an illusory 'white' history has gradually been revealed and I'm forced to re-examine my own past and my place within it. Self reconciliation- the goldfields Series looks at my families migration from Germany to the goldfields and at colonisation in and around the goldfields. The small bowls, with gold and silver lustre rims, speaks about the wealth of the goldfields and the obsession of filling our own bowls.
