#503 Textural story of hope | Kirsten Perry
Slip cast ceramic, glaze, gold lustre
WINNER: 3D CAST
Height: 20cm. Width: 30cm. Depth: 10cm.
These forms echo the qualities of the foreign material used to cast them into ceramic. Subtle folds and the contours of polystyrene, they are fragile and dark. With a soft golden glow emerging from the darkness, they offer hope from the dark cave like forms.
The bio-morphic objects I create are initially carved from disposable materials such as foam and cardboard, then translated into ceramic. Something is gained in this translation; somehow more than the evidence of my process. My process highlights the texture of the foam and cardboard and often exaggerates imperfection.
