#248 RHYTHM and SPICE | Paula Bowie

$900.00

Stoneware Clay

Height: 40cm. Width: 14cm. Depth: 14cm.

Feel the rhythm, smell the warmth of fire and SPICE. This trio of vessels evokes memories of travels to Nigeria. Inspired by cooking communally by the fire, the smell of ground spice and the joy of the family hearth.

As a ceramic artist, I am constantly inspired by the versatile landscapes of QLD. For me, working with clay is a meditative process which allows me to access a strong sense of inner calm. I enjoy the tactile nature of Clay and it's malleability allowing it to make challenging forms, both size and shape. Wheel throwing and hand building are part of my studio practice, along with altering of forms. The occasional combination of these two techniques often provides interesting outcomes bringing me back in alignment with my immediate landscape. I channel observation of Nature in my clay work. Mark making in the clay forms are an integral part of my work, which varies from bold expressive texture to a delicate patterning using the Scrafitto technique. I also enjoy integrating found objects such as driftwood or cane, until one complements the other. Clay as an organic material and artistic medium both inspires and constantly surprises me, which fuels my love for this medium and my craft.
