#149 Down in the Back Shed | Karen Johns

$800.00

Watercolour

Height: 47cm. Width: 56cm.

I was passing a property one day where a recent fire allowed me to see in. I saw lots of old Holdens scattered around in various state of decay so I drove in and aske the owner if I could take photos of them. He was happy I was interested and told me not to forget the one in the shed left of the tractor. The only stipulation he gave me was not to tell anyone where these vehicles were. I was happy to oblige.

My subjects are things about which I feel strongly — the climate, drought, fire, life, death, frustrations. Watercolour is an exciting medium as it never allows you full control. It surprises as it trickles, merges, breaks apart and eventually sets. It is unforgiving but allows your imagination to manipulate and guide it, but you must be alert for clues of what the paint wants to give you.
