#97 Kempsey Storm | Catherine Sim
Oil on canvas
Height: 50cm. Width: 60cm.
Painting en plein air gives me the privilege of immersing myself in the landscape and its changing weather and light. This painting explores the glow and drama of an approaching storm — the shadows lengthening and the golden light contrasting with the looming cloud formations.
My art practice involves getting to know a landscape through immersing myself in it. I need to paint in the landscape and experience the changing weather and light to truly understand it. I often take smaller studies back to the studio to expand them into larger works but will sometimes complete an image in the field. My aim is to explore, celebrate and revere our landscape.
