#14 Jacob's Ladder (A Stairway to Heaven) | Leigh Schoenheimer
Recycled timber, found objects, paint.
Height: 43cm. Width: 28cm. Depth: 14cm.
The collecting of ‘ready-made’ materials is an obsession that provides me with the vocabulary for my assemblages. With a nod to the way in which the Dada artists improvised with found objects, this recombining of unrelated parts has the potential to suggest new meanings and gives rise to new stories.
My multi-paneled, still-life paintings investigate ideas around perception and interpretation in image making. By contrast, the sculptures I make are whimsical constructions of found objects. Stories and new meanings are established through these abstract constructions, where the combining of colourful and familiar, found objects often sparks joy.
