#88 The Path to Gondwana | Ray Besserdin

$19,000.00

3D Sculptured Paper

Height: 94.5cm. Width: 94.5cm.

Ironbark and distinctive Scribbly Gum with bark decorated like abstract paintings and bizarre grass trees dominate. Flowers like Grevillea, Acacia pom-poms and Correa bells decorate the under growth, home to Fairy Wrens. A scribbly pathway leads to Cycads and ferns that once dominated Gondwana.

In the 30 years since first developing his sculpture in paper, Ray’s signature work is a style that uses tearing techniques to create the form, life and expressions rather than precise, mechanical cutting that otherwise loses the feel, beauty and nature of the handmade cotton, mulberry, hemp and flax papers he uses.
