#879 Unravelling | Sally Blake
Pen on paper
Height: 95cm. Width: 75cm.
Unravelling explores the disentangling of the fabric of life as climate change accelerates the rate of flora and fauna extinctions. Deborah Bird Rose’s words are particularly relevant, ‘…the current cascade of extinctions is drawing life out of Earth, unmaking the fabric of life, severing the bonds of connectivity.’
In my practice I visualise the complex interconnections between the human and natural worlds through textile and paper-based media. In particular, the patterning that connects humans and nature- cycles of death, renewal and regeneration, and the disconnections in human understanding of the natural world which result in environmental crises.
