#821 Hammraiser | Tom Christophersen
Watercolour pencil, watercolour paper, white acrylic and silver leaf on watercolour paper
Height: 44cm. Width: 54cm.
I grew up in Adelaide in the early 90s in the aftermath of ‘The Family Murders’, a horrific series of serial-killings where teenage boys were kidnapped, tortured and murdered. The stories used to give me awful nightmares. There were rumours theorising the perpetrators were respectable members of society. The Clergy was mentioned. The murders have never been solved.
Tom Christophersen is a Queer performance and visual artist who is as petrified of beautiful things and death as much as he is transfixed by them. It is primarily the car-crashing of these two themes which permeate the hyper-realistic, almost surrealistic, often dark portraits and films he produces.
