#451 It's A Jungle Out There | Maggie Stein

$390.00

Hand coloured reduction linoprint

Height: 29cm. Width: 21cm.

This image was created for a neighbour whose tiny back yard inspired me. However, when I visited, I was really struck by its ambience. The collapsing hills hoist, outdoor toilet and aged paving spoke of many lives lived and parties had. This image really flowed out of me.

I was introduced to printmaking at Art School in the 1980's, after that time I did more painting, mixed media and drawing. In 2005 I was asked to create an image of a Newtown street and that image recieved a positive response. At this time I had 3 small children and linoprinting is such an accessible art form that one can literally print on the kitchen table (which I did). I also printed on a 5 month family trip round Australia in 2010 but now usually work at my lovely Marrickville studio. I never tire of cutting, it's meditative and therapeutic. I find inspiration from my inner city environment, aged walls, railway tracks and well trodden paths are some of my favourite motifs and metaphors for life's journey.
