#551 Fools Gold | Catherine Coady
Acrylic and mixed media
Height: 65cm. Width: 76cm. Depth: 7cm.
Fool's Gold explores responsibility for control of our bodies, our experiences of bodily detachment and enhancement, together with the alluring promise that medicine can offer a condensed medical pill to enhance the way we feel and behave, against our instincts and true nature.
A pop artist for the 21st century, Melbourne-based artist COADY responds to the pulse of contemporary culture and its addiction to consumption and youth. Working across sculpture, installation, video, performance and painting, COADY’s interdisciplinary practice questions our perceptions of self and the precariousness of our modern mindframe. COADY’s works are humorous and playful, yet also absurdist, drawing on familiar imagery and subverting their prosaicness through disfigurement and displacement.
