WITHDRAWN

Sea food is the heart of most Taiwanese daily meals. For centuries, our oceans have been considered a limitless bounty of food. When we eat fish, we hardly consider its source and which mouths close empty so ours is full. But the truth is different now, increasing fishing efforts over the last 50 years as well as unsustainable fishing practices are pushing many fish stocks to the point of collapse. Factory fishing is further depleting ocean life and destroying the marine ecosystem.

I grew up in South Taiwan. There I trained in traditional painting and completed a graphic design degree. I worked as a graphic designer in Taiwan for 6 years before relocating to Australian in 2006. I later moved to Tasmanian where I taught myself wood sculpting and still work as a graphic designer. Wood carving began as a hobby when I taught myself in late 2012. I work in timber to create detailed, hand crafted, whimsical characters. I combine imagination and sentiment to give viewers a sense of my thoughts about present and past life and old stories from my hometown. I select recycled or off-cut timber and then hand carve and polish them into art sculptures with the unique patterns and original colours of the wood.
