#374 Girl Waiting | Emma Parker
Porcelain, painted underglaze colour.
Height: 41cm. Width: 27cm. Depth: 15cm.
The sculpture is informed by observations of people on Melbourne trains during my own routine commute. This commuter is captured in a moment, engaged in thoughts of future happenings, engrossed in his music. The piece is slab-built porcelain, hand painted with underglaze colour. The back and base are decorated with scenes and patterns taken from stations and interiors of PTV vehicles.
I have been working in the visual arts and education for almost 25 years. I have a Bachelor of Arts and Masters degrees in ceramics. I lived and taught fine art with ceramics at Eton College in England for 15 years before immigrating to Melbourne in October 2018. I am a hand-builder specialising in slab-building. My sculptural work is informed by first hand experiences of the people I encounter in my day to day routine. The resulting figurative sculptures attempt to capture a moment and the fleeting thoughts that might accompany it.
