New sculpture group in Weeroona Park

The WEEROONA sculpture group celebrates the use of Weeroona Park as a meeting point for a diversity of community groups. These include youth week concerts, Apple and Grape Multicultural Festival, art events for all ages, indigenous activities including NAIDOC week, ‘Joyous Under Eights’ activities, band practice and performances. In view of the above,  WEEROONA is designed to evoke an appropriate complementary, celebratory/festive atmosphere consistent with the park’s use.

'Weeroona Ducks'

To me, the very thought of the humble duck provokes an inner smile. These joyous creatures are full of charm, humour and serenity.

My inspiration for the sculpture was drawn from the Pacific Black Duck which inhabits Quart Pot Creek.

The clay sculpture was cast in bronze by Chalkos Fine Art Foundry, Brendale, Qld.

The Dancer and The Drummer”

These granite sculptures suggest celebration through dance and music consistent with the nature and use of Weeroona park. The use of granite connects the pieces with the Granite Belt and determines the forms, colours and textures. The Dancer and Drummer are robust, strong and sensitive, celebrating the spirit of our community.

Waiting for change by Richard Pfeiffer

"Waiting for change"

These pieces were carved to act as sculptural seating so the public might sit and reflect on the group of sculptures before them. The single seater is reminiscent of rock pools of the local area and of deep hidden places.

The patterns on the double-seater were inspired by ripples on the waters surface as well as experiments with Cymatics— the practice of creating designs by adding sand or liquids to a vibrating plate and using different frequencies to switch and change the patterns. In this instance I have been interested in the 'chaos', or transition stage, the stage between two frequencies where a new pattern will emerge. I have tried to depict a subtle element of chaos that shows the ripples bouncing and changing to form something new.  For me this reflects the time we are living in. We are in this chaos stage before a new pattern emerges.
