Life Membership Awarded to Esme Hobba
At the Stanthorpe Art Gallery Society AGM last week, Esme Hobba was awarded a life membership to the Society for her contribution to the gallery over many years.
Thank you Esme!
From Esme:
Thank you....
To all the kindly folk out there, sending congratulations about the honour SRAG has given me, I say thank you. It was a complete surprise. Life memberships are for people with great cleverness and vision and I could name a dozen more deserving.
The circuitous route to becoming a volunteer at out Art Gallery began in the 1990’s when my husband, blacksmith Adrian Hobba, held workshops near Stanthorpe, demonstrated at several “Art in the Woolshed” events at Pikedale,
placed some of his work in the SRAG Boutique and had a most successful exhibition at Warwick Art Gallery. As retirement loomed a serendipity moment led us to our property at Greenlands and since then I have felt we came to heaven – which included family members and many old and new friends.
I have had the privilege of working with six Directors, several others very capably “acting” in the role; a variety of talented administrative staff; fascinating volunteers, too many to count; inspiring committee members and patrons, and meeting thousands of wonderful visitors from all over the world, who wander into Stanthorpe Art Gallery.
Being a”Vollie” at SRAG has meant the stimulus of on going education and learning; being nudged into spheres never before contemplated; having the privilege of getting “up close and personal” with wondous art works; even meeting the creators, makers and minders. Being a “Vollie” has also been about acceptance and respect, diversity, community, friendship and fellowship and being part of an ever evolving team. It is to be recommended. I have been so fortunate. Thank you.
