Interview with Fay Roselt - 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize Local Artist Winner

Fay Roselt - Shibui no 1. Winner Local Artist, 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize.

What made you decide to enter the Stanthorpe Art Prize in 2018?

As a member of the Stanthorpe art community, my decision to enter the 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize was to support our dynamic regional gallery in successfully staging this prestigious bi-annual event.

Has winning a prize in the 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize changed anything in your art life?

Winning the Local Artist Prize gave me a much-needed confidence boost. I was surprised and honoured that my work was chosen by two well-respected judges who are experts in their field.

Did you gain any exposure from being a winner?

The publicity that follows success in the Stanthorpe Art Prize enables exposure to a wider audience.

Where has your work taken you since 2018?

Since the 2018 Stanthorpe Art Prize win I have gained the confidence to experiment with different materials and try new techniques, although I still feel ‘the need to stitch’.

Do you plan to enter the 2020 Stanthorpe Art Prize?

Yes. I do plan to enter the 2020 Stanthorpe Art Prize, although I haven’t yet started on the work.

Would you like to share any of your recent works with our followers?

This is a piece I entered in this year’s Local Artists Exhibition – Urban Jungle -The Favelas.
