Zac & Kids, 2023 (from the series Heimat/Home) | Jana Koelmel
Pigment print on fine art paper - white frame
Height: 70cm. Width: 90cm.
This portrait of a single father with his four kids tells the heartwarming story of a modern-day family. It is part of an ongoing series called Heimat/Home. With my analog large-format camera, I create my version of the 20th-century family photograph, inspired by Thomas Struth’s family portraits.
Through the media of photography, video and writing I search for what connects us all on a deeper level, despite our differences. My work translates inner landscapes into the visual world. Merging poetic imagery with a documentary-style approach, my work evolves around the themes of family, identity, place and women's stories.
