She's a Baroness, Baby | Denise N Rall

$950.00

Refashioned Costume

Height: 120cm. Width: 45cm.

"She's a Baroness, Baby" depicts a re-worked coat, a costume originally constructed for an unreleased movie called ‘Nautilus’. The captain’s coat is re-worked and consequently sheds its masculinity to adorn a woman of minor royalty. The subtitle ‘Baby’ contrasts ironically with her severe figure, almost genderless, of a barren Baroness.

Since 2008, Dr Denise N Rall pursues her academic and artistic interests in the importance of women’s fashion as signifiers of a conflicted world. Her wearable artworks, constructed of used clothing which are refashioned and restitched, are designed to portray the fragmentary roles women perform in society.
