Naturally dyed linen and wool, thrifted cotton and silk

This nyssa tree was planted in my garden by my late mother. It is always in its autumn finery at the time she passed. More recently this tree represents my husband’s recent battle with illness. Significant names and places related to these events are stitched into the fabric.
Pippita Bennett uses natural dyes to create colour on the threads and textiles she works with. Her dyed fabrics are soaked with the memory of the place they were dyed; similarly thrifted fabric holds memory of its past use. Stitches are her words, a memory of time and place.
