From The Ashes | Malcolm Koch
Drill holes and oxidisation on a copper sheet (.55mm thick), mounted to a 3mm aluminium composite panel with 9mm spacing. Additional copper relief sheet is mounted with 7mm spacing. Art has been sealed with a micro-crystalline wax polish. Framed box with acrylic.
Height: 63cm. Width: 113cm.
In a different geometric setting, a textured terrain was created by interconnecting drill holes and oxidised staining. The additional relief-piece reflects one set of the nine expressions. This symbolises distance memories and serves as a reminder that we can ascend beyond the desecration of a place and unite as one.
Since 2004, I have been evolving a distinctive expressive style that I call Membrane Art. A way to re-imagine nature — entangled in the void of space time. My latest work expands on that concept by using copper surfaces as a medium to give a greater sense of strength and permanence to the idea.
