Floating | Marie Shannon
Copper Wire
Height: 245cm. Width: 420cm.
The loss of my mother interstate during covid was surreal and I have tried to portray the sensation of swirling and floating as I navigated state borders to say my last goodbye. These rescued beads are made in Kilimanjaro in the 1970’s. Three necklaces have been used for this project.
Raw re-milled copper is a beautiful sustainable Australian product that allows me to showcase my finds of discarded jewellery, stone and shells. It can be formed into flowing shapes, catches the light and has a gentle presence, while allowing me to explore visual form and embracing the surroundings beyond.
