Five White Shirts at the Sunflower Farm | Simon Mark

$2,100.00

Oil on canvas

Height: 82cm. Width: 112cm.

Each shirt represents a day of the week, from the reluctance experienced on Monday mornings to the drudgery of Tuesdays and acceptance by Wednesdays through to rushing out of there on Fridays. I put office shirts into a rural landscape due to the many tree and sea-changers around here as well as those who dream of doing so.

I live in the environment in which I paint, the Macleay Valley, NSW. In Winter, I'm in the hills which go orange with whiskey grass and vibrate with colour against the mauves of the clouds. In Summer I'm in the studio doing figurative paintings. Art, to me, is the only material thing on this planet which can teach us about the depth of ourselves, so it is a necessary and noble pursuit.
