Earth Layers, Artist Book | Grace Cross
Artist Book, Rust Dyed Metallic Substrate, stitch
Height: 28.5cm. Width: 10cm.
A desolate landscape portraying layers of history is created through the process of rust dyeing on metallic surfaces. A build-up of surfaces with stitch depicting land disconnections, weathered textures reflect on the fragile passage of time. Interweaving of materials, expose connections to past, to nature, to stories embedded within each page.
In my art I am exploring a connection to place and the environment and my interpretation of weathering, erosion, and disintergration. My work is a contemplation of the physical weathering in the earth - abstract representations of a landscape I engage with and a reflection on the passage of time and fragility.
