A Collection of Seasons

  • Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery Marsh Street Stanthorpe, QLD, 4380 Australia (map)

Immerse yourself in the ever-changing beauty of our region at the Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery's exciting new exhibition, A Collection of Seasons.

Showcasing the Gallery's permanent collection, it brings together artworks that capture the essence of life in the Granite Belt, from the vibrant hues of summer to the contemplative tones of winter. Prepare to be surprised and delighted by artistry that reflects the unique character of each season.

With thanks to the Gordon Darling Foundation for sponsoring the catalogue for this exhibition.

Stanthorpe is known for its seasons.

Artists have always been drawn to this place — we are continuing very old traditions.

The region’s indigenous people used art and songs to tell their creation stories, guide their way across country and record history. Europeans who found their way to Australia, recorded their impressions of the landscape in drawings, words, songs, maps, and photography.

Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery’s Collection has accumulated over many years, through acquisitions from the Arts Festival/Art Prize and by generous donations. Significant works from the oeuvres of internationally recognised Australian artists, including William Robinson, Jon Molvig, Margaret Olley and Charles Blackman, are housed here alongside pivotal pieces by Gordon Bennett, Barbara Schey and Gwyn Hanssen Pigott.

Generous donations from Pamela Bell O.A.M, and William Bowmore A.M. enhanced this community asset with examples by several Europeans, Picasso amongst them.

So that you might share in the celebrations for the opening of the refurbished gallery SRAG has sampled these valuable holdings to create A Collection of Seasons.

It responds to our local environment and tells stories about the artists and the growth of the collection.

We hope you enjoy this wonderful exhibition and the many ways that art may be experienced beyond the walls of the gallery in the public spaces of the Granite Belt region.
